Recruitment and retention of top life sciences graduate students is a priority for BIO5. Ensuring easy access to graduate program information through the Graduate Studies in the Life Sciences website is one way the institute manifests that commitment. At the heart of this site is BioGate: up-to-date information about faculty research interests, publications, and contact information that assists prospective graduate students in making matches with potential research mentors across the life sciences. Today, BioGate maintains information about nearly 700 life science faculty members at The University of Arizona.
In an effort to enhance graduate student recruitment, BIO5 is partnering with multiple department-based and GIDP graduate programs to develop an Umbrella Program for Graduate Training in the Molecular Life Sciences. The original proposal was selected for development of a full proposal by higher administration, and a multi-disciplinary committee has been formed to complete that task. If approved for implementation, the Umbrella Program would begin recruiting graduate students for Fall 2010 admission. For access to the original proposal, please refer to the White Paper proposal below.
