Vascular Surgeon Leads NIH-funded Study of Brain Blood Flow And Alzheimer’s Disease

A $4.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will fund a University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson-led study to determine the impact of carotid disease on cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease, the most common type of dementia. The interdisciplinary research that led to this NIH grant originated with seed grant awards from the Arizona Alzheimer’s Consortium and the University of Arizona Translational Imaging Program Project Stimulus include BIO5 collaborators Drs. Eric Reiman, Gene Alexander, and Ted Trouard.
