Funding

To jumpstart interdisciplinary research efforts, the University of Arizona Office of Research Innovation and Impact (RII) and the BIO5 Institute provide several avenues of funding and grants for our BIO5 members and their labs. Funding opportunities range from small grants used for preliminary data and equipment to multi-year efforts that bring us a step closer to curing complex diseases and finding sustainable solutions for global food security. We also support programs that support early-career researchers and recognize faculty who exemplify the characteristics of interdisciplinary biosciences research excellence and the spirit of mentorship.

Internal Funding

BIO5 supports innovative projects and new ideas to further interdisciplinary, catalytic early-stage research by funding seed, pilot, and equipment grants totaling over $1M each year.

From a one-time grant to a mid-career researcher to move to the next step of their careers, to supporting a team of scientists or funding equipment that expands research capacity.
