BIO5 member Floyd "Ski" Chilton, a professor of nutritional sciences in the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences, will partner with researchers from Georgetown University and the MedStar Health Research Institute in Maryland to investigate how ancestry and genetics shape the body's response to omega-3 fatty acids. With a $3.9 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, he aims to bring precision to the fish oil debate.

An Oct. 30 groundbreaking ceremony marked the next step for CAMI, a biomedical research hub to be located on the Phoenix Bioscience Core. BIO5 member Deepta Bhattacharya is the inaugural executive director.

A study led by BIO5 member Luciano Matzkin studied the reproductive tissues of female flies to see if the act of mating can cause bodily changes at a molecular level. His study uncovered that females create their own male-derived, female translated proteins after mating.
