BIO5 members Vlad Kalinichenko at University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix received a $3 million grant from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for developing new treatment methods for lung disease in premature infants.

A single domino can send things in a new direction, much like how a gene mutation can initiate a chain reaction in cells and lead to cancer. Researchers, including BIO5 member Nirav Merchant, are using big data to target a particularly challenging gene mutation called KRAS.
